Course Description         

Introduction to the management of engineering projects. The design review process is presented as well as techniques for determination of requirements. Topics also include the product development life cycle, scheduling techniques, teamwork, and continuous improvement. A proposal for a senior project is the outcome of the course – to be taken in the senior year. 

IMPORTANT: This course includes a mini-course on electrical safety concepts in Week 1. At the end of the mini-course, there is an exam to assess your understand of electrical safety concepts. You will have two weeks to earn a score of at least 6 points out of 7.6 on this exam. You may take the test multiple times. Once you achieve the required score, you will be allowed to continue the course beyond week 2. To reiterate, until the electrical safety exam is passed with the required score, the ET410 discussions and assignments will be unavailable starting with week 3. With the discussions and assignments unavailable, you may become in danger of being withdrawn from the course. Thus, it is important that you complete this mini-course on electrical safety and successfully achieve the required score on the exam in order to progress in the course.

Course Objectives

       Define what a project is and what constitutes project management

       Describe the Project Management Institute (PMI) and its role in establishing the standard upon which the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is based 

       Identify the nine knowledge areas of project management

       Identify the 5 process groups of project management

Testing

This is a proctored course. Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) requires validation “that the student who takes an assessment is the same person who enrolled in the program and that the examination results will reflect the student’s own knowledge and competence in accordance with stated learning outcomes.” (Retrieved February 23, 2021 from The DEAC Accreditation Handbook, page 92). Grantham University utilizes the services of ProctorU to meet this requirement.

Proctored Exam Information:

This course includes a proctored exam.  You must register to take your exam using this link. You may register for and schedule your exam at any time after the course start date. To take the proctored exam you must:

       Have a webcam

       Provide valid picture ID to the proctor before the exam starts

       Use a computer that will allow a live proctor from ProctorU (a third party) to temporarily take control of your computer

       Test must be scheduled at least 72 hours prior to the time you plan on completing the exam or there will be a fee paid directly to ProctorU (credit card or debit card only)

       Take the exam in a room with no other people, distractions, or interferences

*If you do not attempt the Proctored Exam, you will be unable to access assignments and exams for all weeks following the Proctored Exam, essentially resulting in a failing grade for the course.
