Scholarly Writing for Healthcare Professionals – Week 6 Assignment 2

Longer Formal Paper

Now that you are able to develop a short formal informative paper, let’s make a few changes and expand our thinking once again. APA style can take several forms, depending on writing goals. While some things never change, like the need to cite and reference, other modifications can be adjusted as the purpose and audience change. This week, let’s expand the content and the style as we adapt this paper to more content. It’s not hard…just adding more wonderful ideas and changing the style a bit.

How has our format changed?

Up to now, we have only used a single Level 1 heading (the title), but this paper requires more information than the previous two. In this case, the extent of the assignment could not be thoroughly addressed with only one Level 1 heading. Two Level 1 headings were requested along with some Level 2 & 3 headings to subdivide the major points of each Level 1 major idea. In even longer papers, additional Level 1 headings with appropriate subdivisions might be needed to adequately support the topic at hand. In fact, use as many as needed to completely address the required topics. As writing assignments become lengthier and more complex, the proper use of headings is an indispensable tool to keep your writing organized and thorough!

Understand that the use of heading placements will be directed by the type of paper you write, the requirements of that assignment, the purpose of the paper, and the audience involved. This really isn’t hard. Be flexible and consider that the rules of APA styling can and should be modified in different circumstances.  You will now use the same elements of APA to create an assignment that is a little longer than the previous ones. Generally speaking, DQs can be written in the simplest template, weekly assignments with the second or third templates, and final assignments will require the most lengthy and complex template. It also relates to how many references you found when searching that led you to different aspects of the topic. You are making great progress in your ability to write professional, scholarly papers!

Apply the writing process to produce a 3-4 page paper (exclusive of title and reference pages).

Include the following aspects in the assignment:

·         Choose a new health care topic you find interesting but are not familiar with. THIS TOPIC WILL ALSO BE USED FOR WEEKS 7 & 8 SO BE SURE IT IS SUFFICIENT TO MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS.

·         Conduct a search of the library databases and internet for four to five scholarly references less than five-years old [2015-2019]

·         Use the template for this assignment and prepare your outline based upon what information your search has provided.

·         Ensure your paper has a title page, content page[s], an introductory paragraph, with a minimum of two Level 1 headings, at least two Level 2 headings under each of the Level 1 headings, two Level 3 headings underneath two of the Level 2 headings with MEAL paragraphs under each heading, a conclusion [an additional Level 1 heading], and a reference page.

·         Ensure each of your references is used and properly cite with in-text citations.

·         Use correct APA formatting throughout.

·         Run your paper through Grammarly and revise accordingly.

·         Use the Scholarly Writing Checklist.

·         Include any suggested corrections from feedback for the Week 4 and Week 5 papers.

·         If you are an English Language Learner, ask a native English speaker for suggestions.

·         Use at least three methods of review/proofing prior to submission.

·         Send your draft through Tutor.com but remember to upload it early enough to receive the feedback and make corrections for a 12-hour turnaround.

·         Check your SafeAssign report and make corrections as needed. Contact your professor if you need to resubmit based on SafeAssign results.
