Course Description
Information systems and strategies for managing them can change
quickly, but the principles that guide both often remain constant. Through a
mixture of theory and practical application, this course presents the big
picture of managing information systems in a comprehensible framework
applicable to organizations large and small. The overarching principle is that
the right information, delivered to the right person, in the right fashion, at
the right time, can improve and ensure organizational effectiveness.
Course Objectives
· Compare and contrast hardware and
software of computer systems as well as mobile devices and applications.
· Analyze problems related to e-commerce
including platforms, legal issues, delivery systems and customer data
· Demonstrate an understanding of data
systems, data models, and data storage
· Evaluate different information and
support systems such as knowledge management systems, artificial intelligence,
big data, business intelligence and analytics, and expert systems
· Discuss the characteristics of the
Internet, Extranets, and cloud computing and services
· Implement a mock project using
proposals, methodologies, diagrams, flow charts and informed decisions to
determine requirements through research and application of concepts and ideas
· Examine legal issues, ethical and
security concerns, as well as personal and social impacts related to computing
