DCE Focused Exam Cough (Pediatric)

DCE Instructions

In this assignment you will conduct a focused exam on Danny Rivera, an 8-year old boy presenting with a cough. After you interview and assess Danny Rivera, you will transfer care to your preceptor. This assignment is an opportunity for you to practice and refine your assessment skills. Students work toward an SBAR hand-off in these physical exams focused on a chief complaint and examining multiple body systems. This assignment takes approximately 60 minutes to complete.

When you submit an attempt on this assignment, you will see immediate feedback on your work within the Shadow Health tool. At the bottom of the Exam Report tab, you will see summary percentages of how many findings you uncovered. These summary percentages are the basis of your grade for the required course assignments.

You may attempt this assignment two times. When completed click on Results. In the upper right hand corner click Lab Pass. You will then see the Lab Pass (certificate on Completion). Save your Lab Pass upon completion of the DCE.

You will submit the following reflection and the Lab Pass to the dropbox:

Reflection Instructions

Using the summary (found in the Exam Report tab) of your experience and the information on the Lab Pass, reflect on how well you did on the capstone assessment. Review the grading rubric and address the following areas in the reflection paper:

· Subjective Data Collection

· Objective Data Collection

· Utilization of Assessment Techniques

· SBAR/Interdisciplinary Communication

· Synthesis of Information

· Organization/Systematic Approach

· Documentation

· Patient Safety

· Patient Education

Reflective writing means you think about what you did well and areas where you need improvement. The paper should be in APA format but does not necessarily contain references. If you have researched information about any area of the health history or about specific information you received from the patient, a reference may be included.

The reflection paper should be a minimum of 3 pages in length, not including the title page. Cite any external resources used in your reflection and include a reference page for them.

You will submit the reflection paper and the Lab Pass to the dropbox for grading.
