Final Course Project

The course project gives you the opportunity to become an expert on a widely known current social movement that has, or is having, an impact on American society.  Following is a list of questions that you will need to address in your final course project.

1.    Identify your chosen social movement.

2.    Identify the underlying social problem that is the focus of this social movement.

3.    When and where the social movement was started?

4.    Who were the original founders of the social movement?

5.    What were the initial goals and objectives of this social movement?

6.    What are some of the challenges this social movement has encountered?

7.    Who are the current leaders of this movement?

8.    What other groups or social movements have shown support for this social movement?

9.    What groups or social movements have shown opposition to the objectives and goals of this social movement?

10.  What are the achievements of this social movement to date?

11.  What are the goals of this social movement that remain to be achieved?

12.  Identify and describe any related social movements developed as a result of this social movement (these could be movements with similar or conflicting goals)?

13.  Analyze this social movement from one of the three major sociological theories/perspectives (structural-functionalist, conflict, symbolic interactionist). You can focus on the motivations behind the social movement, its accomplishments, resistance to it, etc.…)

14.  Provide a critique of the approaches the social movement has taken toward achieving their goals.

15.  Propose additional strategies the social movement could use to achieve their goals.

Other Requirements

1.    Your submission should be 6 to 7 pages (not including the reference or cover page)

2.    A minimum of 8 sources need to be listed on your reference page and cited in your paper showing where they were used.

3.    Full use of APA formatting is required.

Your paper should be free of writing errors and double spacing should be used throughout.
