Video Lecture 2 "Quality of Life and Fear of Crime"
Hello class, welcome to Week 2. For our second week of class, we will assess
the critical issues correlated with the role and job function of the police officer,
to include a look at specific theories and perspectives including the “broken
windows” theory and quality of life perspectives that influence policing
strategies.
In addition to your chapter 3 and 4 readings, we
have a lecture, two videos which discuss community policing, and additional
reading on the U.S. Department of Justice Ferguson, Missouri report.
Your assignments this week include the Week Two
discussion forum where you will discuss community policing, and a paper which
also focuses on the important components of community policing.
In your forum for this week, you will be asked
to discuss what is community policing. In your opinion, how important is citizen
involvement in this type of policing, and what local communities do to assist
the police.
And for your Week Two paper, you will be asked to address the
following tasks in a 2-3 page essay.
First, define and explain community policing as currently practiced in
the U.S. Second, from your review of the
U.S. Department of Justice investigation in the Ferguson, Missouri police
department, what do you feel are the main criticisms of the police in Ferguson,
and what steps can communities take to make community policing a successful
strategy for law enforcement,
